IBM Cell BE + Mainframe + Linux = Gameframe

Cool idea to put Cell processors (think PlayStation 3 processors) into Mainframes to power online 3D games and virtual worlds…. who would have thought….

I hear all the time - Linux doesn’t have games… yes, the client doesn’t, but it looks like network-centric gaming is pretty popular grounds for Linux servers. Now we just need the client end to shape up…

You can read about it all here.

Why would you say Linux doesn’t have games? Whoever you are hearing this from are clueless. There are 1,000s of recent no-cost game titles and 100s of recent commercial game titles.

That’s not entirely accurate. Sure there are a “ton of games” in terms of volumes, but your wikipedia article even shows that most are emulation from other platforms or not the “mainstream, high volume” games that appeal to a large audience. So for instance, go to say gamespy.com and check out the top PC games - what % of those run native on Linux without having to rig up Wine or CrossoverOffice, etc…?
