ATI R200 driver support for Linux

This impacts me on my current ThinkPad T42 with a Radeon 9000 series and I find it quite annoying… I need an upgrade… I’ve found nVidia’s Linux driver support to be a better experience although that statement is certainly impacted by what I’ve used/had available and I’m sure others may disagree. Open source the driver if it has gone legacy…
