GPL to the Rescue
Rescuing my hard drive that is. I had a FAT32 external USB hard drive that stored a number of things including my photo archives. It would have been a real shame to lose the data, but a great GPL application called TestDisc came to my rescue. It is available from http://www.cgsecurity.org/ as a GPL download. The application let’s you search, modify, and repair FAT32 tables and even rebuilds an errant boot sector. Thanks to Christophe Grenier for releasing such a powerful, simple application. By the way, I noticed the Windows version runs off cygwin… a nice feature that shows off Linux in the powerful options his program combines.
