Cell Processor Taking Over Supercomputing While WIPO Takes Over Netcasting
This is a unique solution of hybrid Opteron and Cell processors leveraging niche capabilities of the Cell to reach 1 petaflop of computing power. 1 billion million calculations per second… sounds fast. I wonder what XGL would look like on it :) And the whole thing for the low low price of about $100M.
In other news, HP’s board is having fun and WIPO is trying to lock up Netcasting on the Internet with copyright law. Hopefully Lawrence Lessig gets on their calendars because this could have a huge impact on public policy, Code and The Commons… I have a feeling he’s already on it. I haven’t had a chance to read the 108 pages of text in the draft treaty yet, but if you have any comments, I’d be interested in hearing them. Apparently a few companies have already aligned against it.
