In our schools, we&#039;ve been using Linux extensively on the network side for a decade or so. About 90% of our servers are running Linux, and almost all of the software on them is open source. This is the first time we&#039;ve actually tried to get students and teachers using it at the desktop level, though.

We&#039;ve moved on from the &quot;exploring what these things can do&quot; stage to an actual pilot. A sixth grade teacher will be using the eeePCs in his class for the rest of the year, and then he&#039;ll decide whether to get give Dell laptops running Windows or about 15 of the little laptops.
